Motor packages enable machine builders to deploy complete SmartServo distributed motion-control architecture

Adept Technology Inc. (San Jose, CA; www.adept.com), a manufacturer of flexible automation for the electronics, fiberoptics, telecommunications, and semiconductor industries, has released its Adept Servo Kits--completely self-contained, pre-engineered amplifier and motor packages that are preconfigured to work with the company's SmartControllers, which are all based on the IEEE 1394 (FireWire) technology. Each Adept Servo Kit consists of an Adept SmartAmp with a matched ac servo motor with absolute encoder, amplifier mounting bracket, and documentation. Components such as power and interface cables, remote I/O kit, power-distribution unit, and cable accessories are available as options. The kits are based on Adept's SmartAmp technology and provide true plug-and-play servo compatibility with the company's SmartController products.
The Servo Kits use the FireWire-based, high bandwidth SmartServo network. SmartServo is a real-time network that is the backbone of Adept's distributed motion-control architecture. Several Servo Kits can be daisy-chained to a single controller using significantly less cabling, thereby reducing cost. The distributed servo amplifier mounts close to the servo motor, thereby eliminating the need for panel space and reducing the length of required cabling. The SmartServo Kits are compatible with the SmartController CS and CX product lines, and all SmartController options and accessories.
